While I certainly believe in second chances, Chris Brown’s altercation with Rihanna is a little hard to forgive and forget. These tweets speak only of ignorance to what domestic abuse really is, even if they’re jokes. Especially because they are jokes.
It’s not Brown’s fault that his fans are saying these things, but he could be taking action against it. A video apology is not enough; I think that as a public figure who grew up with domestic abuse and who has been the abuser, he could make a difference in speaking out against domestic abuse.
It pains me that these women aren’t aware of how grave a subject like domestic abuse can be, and that’s largely society’s fault.
